Problems with Microtek ScanMaker 630

Hi,
the problems are:
- total system crashes (the console, X and the network are dead, the
only way to get the system up again is to reset it...)
- color inversion: When preview in halftone or lineart mode,
the results are inverted, and after switching to 24bit color the colors
are inverted. Using 8bit gray sets the scanner to "normal" colors.

Does anyone here use the Microtek TMA?
Is yes: Is the "interface" to the scanner simple (switch type) or
complex (electronics)?

cu

PS: Linux 2.0.34, x86, NCR810, no other SCSI-devices other than the
scanner on the SCSI-bus, Termination active on Hostadapter and scanner,
sane 0.73 with microtek2 backend, no crashes before installing the
scanner.
