    Sorry, but have you made the same typo as I did? It has to be

    epson:/dev/usbscanner0
                  ^ (my s on the keyboard doesn't realy work :)

    Run scanimage like this

    # SANE_DEBUG_EPSON=128 scanimage --device epson:/dev/usbscanner0

    to generate more debug output...
