I have uploaded a version of the backend to

ftp://ftp.muc.de/people/bernds/mtek2/microtek2-pre0.8.190799.tar.gz

that should recognize the ScanMaker 4. This version should finally
at least print the scanner attributes to stderr (when
´option dump 1´ is set). These attributes are still of interest.
