    Nothing else? Looks like the sane libs weren't found at all. What's
    the contents of dll.conf? But in this case you should see error
    messages. What's the result of ldd /path/to/xscanimage ?

    Try to disable all the other backends in dll.conf (put a # in front of
    all the other entries). Are you sure that only one version of SANE is
    installed? Is /usr/local/lib in the file /etc/ld.so.conf?
