    Yes....:

    In that case we will get in trouble with the versions.
    If we split frontends and backends in two packages they will get their
    own version numbers, so a common distribution (backend+frontend)
    will mix up different version numbers.

    We should _not_ make any distributions that include backends
    and frontends when we split them!!!
    (I think sane-frontends-1.0.4 will keep up to date much longer
    than sane-1.0.4 (backends)).

    I would prefer this because we really have two different
    distributions and we should not mix them up.

    I think it does not matter. There may be someone using xcam/xscanimage
    and so it is a good solution to make an own distribution with it.
