The rule of thumb is that any external SCSI device will need a
terminator. Now, please understand that not every SCSI device on an
external SCSI cable/chain will need a terminator, only the last one
(because, as the name implies, the terminator terminates the bus).

So, if you have a scanner and, oh, a ZIP drive, the last device
on the bus need to have a terminator.

Terminators come in different flavors. My ScanTeK scanner has
a Centronix(?) great big huge SCSI connector. It also has a low-
density 50 pin female connector. So I can either add another device
using the 50 pin female connector of the Centronix connector. And,
if I don't choose to add another SCSI device to the chain, I have
to put a terminator either on the Centronix connector or the 50 pin
connector. Since the scanner provided a Centronix connector, I used
       that one.
