I think the backend should have no interaction at all with the
human user. This is actually an issue where TWAIN seems to be having
troubles (there are programmers who want to scan batches but can't
get some drivers to stop popping up dialog boxes:-) and we just don't
want to go there. If we want pretty dialog boxes and language
translations, put it in the TWAIN/Linux layer.
