I'm using 2.2.6 and it's working fine on my system. I actually used to
have occasional problems with the early 2.2.x series, but they have been
fixed on my system. I use an Adaptec 1542CF card with only my Artec AT3
scanner and a ZIP Plus drive attached (daisy-chained off the back of
the scanner). I use an Advansys ABP940U for my main SCSI card although I
don't have any Ultra-SCSI devices attached to it for now, just a FAST-SCSI
hard drive and a CD-ROM and CDRW. Don't have any scsi problems though
unless I'm messing with the artec backend and changing code which confuses
the SCSI bus. :)

I have received some information from Artec in the past, but nothing
recently. I believe the person I was dealing with is no longer with the
company because email to him bounced a few weeks ago. I used this
documentation to get the AT3 and A6000C+ models working and also to make
some headway on getting other models working, but it's a slow go since I
only have access to my AT3.

The Artec backend is being updated whenever I have time, which I have been
able to work on it more recently. I have been just putting updates on
my webpage and have been in email contact with a few people testing it with
me. When we are ready to make another SANE release, I'll do a diff and
submit a patch for all the changes that I've made since Sane 1.0 (same
backend version as 1.0.1).
