the umax backend works under OS/2 with (at least) models Speedy8 and 610S (tested by me); but you got a crash in the
GUI frontend, so you should contact the Scn/2 author.
You can test the backend using the command line utility included with SANE 0.74 that is scanimage.exe; you need to
configure properly your umax.conf with something like
scsi UMAX
and run scanimage --help
