Grayify image with sane_contro_ option()

    Hi all,

    Can ananybody tell me how to set scan mode of a scanner so as to acquire a
    gray image?
    I have seen "grayify" as control option for PNM backend. But no such option
    in any other backend.
    So how it is for other backends?
    Also what is the suitable backend for hp5300c scanner ?
    Pls help me out!!!!!!!!1
