    Hmmm. I'm on a Red Hat 6.1 system; I'm a bit
    on the conservative side in that once I get my
    system working in a particular configuration I
    don't like to perturb it; this may lend credence
    to your hypothesis that it's the newer install of
    Linux and not your hardware specifically that may
    be the root cause of this problem.

    Adaptec AHA2940 controllers:

            RH 6.1 - works
            RH 6.2 - works
            RH 7.0 - broken
