Setting gamma with xsane

Hi, Oliver.

I finally came around to installing xsane and testing it with the Canon
backend. Everything seems to work fine. It didn't hang and neither did the
backend. It looks good and is certainly more comfortable and has more
features than xscanimage.

The only thing I couldn't figure out is: with xscanimage I have the option
of setting a gamma curve for the scanning. This gamma setting is actually
sent to the scanner and it is the scanner who does the gamma correction.
With xsane I can set a gamma value, but not a gamma curve. Besides, under
(I think) "File->Info", it says that the gamma correction is done by
software (xsane). Can't I send a gamma curve to the scanner with xsane?

One other -less important- thing: I find the icons at the bottom of the
main xsane window, specially "Negative" and "Autoenhancement" difficult
to understand. If there were no bubble help I wouldn't have a clue about
what they could be for.

My kudos for the good work.
