HP ScanJet 5p - sane can't use device

Hi,

I'm trying to use sane with a SCSI HP 5p scanner. The problem, the
device does not show up as a usable device:
# scanimage -L
device `pnm:0' is a Noname PNM file reader virtual device
device `pnm:1' is a Noname PNM file reader virtual device

Linux (COL 2.2) see's the scanner as shown in the following dmesg:
Vendor: HP Model: C5110A Rev: 3635
Type: Processor ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi generic sgb at scsi0, channel 0, id 2, lun 0

The hp.conf file contains the following:
scsi HP
/dev/scanner

The /dev/scanner is a sym link to /dev/sgb (sgb links to sg1) and
permissions are set to 666.

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
