HP Scanjet XXX SCSI and Linux Crash

We have 2 Intel-Machines with 2 Linux (kernel 2.0.30 and 2.0.36)
connected to 2 HP Scanjet (IIcx and 4c) and both machines crash (about
once at day) when hpscanpbm or sane scan N pages near temporally.

Do you know the cure for this problem ?
