Mustek SE 12000SP, only in gray with SANE on SuSE 5.3 ?

I've just had a scanner - Mustek SE 12000SP (C06 S12IDW flatbed scanner)

- and I've plugged it on my SCSI-3 controller, a Tekram DC-390F.
When I use SANE (new version 1.0 - SuSE rpm), I can work only in Gray or

Lineart at the lowest resolution : 60 dpi.
If I try something else, I've got the following messages :

Error during read : Out of memory - (xscanimage in Xwindow)
or
sane_read: Out of memory - (scanimage in console mode)

My computer is fitted with 64 Mo SDRAM and 64 Mo of SWAP...
The scanner works fine under Micro$oft 95 but not on SuSE Linux 5.3 !
Does anyone has THE solution ?
I tried the following things :

1 - asking Dejanews -> nothing !
2 - reading SANE documentation with different tests on
/etc/sane.d/mustek.conf -> nothing !
3 - try swapoff -a -> nothing !

Now, I'm asking you...

Here some hardware/boot/tests indications :
