Here are two suggestions for a frontend-enhancement:
First: The preview window should not always show the whole page because
little pieces (e.g. graphics in a book etc.) are very hard to pick up
exactly. It should display only the preview area in maximum size. Do you
know Microtek ScanWizard? They have a very user-friendly preview window
because little preview areas are scaled to window size.
Next suggestion: Brightness and contrast corrections should be applied
directly to the preview window, so that you can see the changes without
acquiring a second preview. ( --> ScanWizard )
