It sounds like you're better off:

1) complaining to the authors of Impos/2, who have produced broken software.
2) writing a little shell script to strip out the comment string yourself.

Here's a suggestion for SANE, though:

Maybe the comment string could include some pertinent information, like
the date and time, etc.
