Well I fixed a bit in the patch.xhp file.
The old line was:
+PRELOADABLE_BACKENDS = $(SUBDIR_BACKENDS) $(LOCAL_BACKEND)
Which should be:
+PRELOADABLE_BACKENDS = $(SUBDIR_BACKENDS) $(LOCAL_BACKENDS)
and things go much better when compiling a new version.
