Yes, the current code has this "limitation" (both in gtkglue.c and the
backends), but the docs don't spell that out. We certainly need to
bring the docs and the code in sync but I'm not sure whether we should
do it be adapting the former to the latter or vice versa. Suggestions
welcome.
