Not yet. Most of the non-SCSI-scanners are very poorly documented.
Some time I will probably write a LHSII-bridge which would allow
the handscanners which follow the standard Linux HandScanner Ioctl
Interface to be used with SANE.

Yes. This is because the other versions (parallel, serial, ...) are normally
documented not very well. There is no reason why it could be impossible to
write a SANE driver for other than SCSI scanners, but the companies using
SCSI seem to be professional enough not to deem a simple protocol to be a
trade secret.
