Hmm - do you have to run Windoze to set up the scanner card ? I have seen my
scanner producing such results when it was accessed by old/buggy software.
This disappeared after power-cycling it.

I case you have to set up the card using windows, do so, reboot to linux, but
power-cycle the scanner before scanning. Maybe this could help ...
