ok I get this:

[sanei_init_debug]: Setting debug level of mustek to 128.
[mustek] attach: opening /dev/scanner
[sanei_init_debug]: Setting debug level of sanei_scsi to 128.
[mustek] attach: sending INQUIRY
[sanei_scsi] scsi_req_enter: entered 0x401aa008
[sanei_scsi] sanei_scsi_req_wait: waiting for 0x401aa008

[sanei_scsi] sanei_scsi_req_wait: read 132 bytes
[mustek] wait_ready: sending TEST_UNIT_READY
[sanei_scsi] scsi_req_enter: entered 0x401aa008
[sanei_scsi] sanei_scsi_req_wait: waiting for 0x401aa008
[sanei_scsi] sanei_scsi.issue: 0x401aa008
[sanei_scsi] sanei_scsi_req_wait: read 36 bytes
[mustek] attach: device doesn't look like a Mustek scanner (result[0]=0x5)
scanimage: no SANE devices found

hmm - doesn't look like a Mustek scanner ? is that a generic response
for "there is nothing on this device" ? or "there is something but it
aint no Mustek scanner" ?
